Dorothea Bate Blue Plaque

Short social video for Historic England to celebrate the unveiling of the national blue plaque for this trailblazing paleontologist.

Bonfire Films was commissioned by Historic England to capture the unveiling of a national blue plaque honouring Dorothea Bate - a pioneering palaeontologist and one of the first women employed as a scientist by the Natural History Museum. We were lucky enough to work with the brilliant History and archeology content creator Tash Archaeo.

Filmed at the museum in Tring, the project brought an extraordinary scientific legacy into focus, celebrating a woman whose curiosity and determination helped transform our understanding of prehistoric animals. It was a brilliant opportunity to bring heritage storytelling and a live moment of recognition together.

We shot and edited the film in a single day, delivering it hours after the unveiling, beating the national press coverage. Combining tight storyboarding, clear direction and rapid-turnaround editing, the project was a real success - bringing Bate’s story to audiences while the announcement was unfolding.

It’s always a pleasure to work with Bonfire, their enthusiasm, creativity and clear understanding of each brief has meant they’ve consistently produced great films that our audiences have really engaged with. They have an incredible ability to bring the story to light
